The eighth and final class of the Coronado Festival of Speed features production cars built up until 1966. These vehicles could be purchased at dealerships with a few performance and safety modifications. The 1965 and 1966 Shelby GT350 fits into this category, and several examples were in attendance at the event this past weekend to race around the runways at the Coronado naval base. The Trans-Am races of the late 1960s and early 1970s were the pinnacle of road racing for American muscle cars. The Beach Cities Mustang Club held its 13th annual Mustangs at the Queen Mary show in Long Beach, CA this past weekend. More than 350 Mustangs were in attendance, including classics to 2010 models, as well as Shelby, Roush and Saleen models. Saleen also held their annual SaleenFest at the event, displaying their newly released 2010 435S Mustang. You can see photos of the event below.

Steve Saleen held his annual car show and open house this past weekend at his new SMS Supercars facility in Corona, CA. American Racing founders Romeo Palamides and J.O. Ellison most likely had no idea how much of an influence they would have on American car culture when they started the company in 1956. The Torq-Thrust wheel helped launch an entire aftermarket industry, bringing performance wheels from the track to the street.
