2010 marks the 45th anniversary of the Shelby Mustang, and to celebrate the Quail Motorsports Gathering paid tribute to the cars with a display of more than thirty historically significant Mustangs built by Carroll Shelby. “Carroll Shelby is one of America’s great success stories,” said Gordon McCall, co-founder of The Quail Motorsports Gathering.  “He has been a World War II aviator, a champion racecar driver winning the 24 Hours at Le Mans amongst other races and a legendary automobile designer. It is important to celebrate his passion and ingenuity that is an inspiration for Americans and motorsports enthusiasts alike.”

Some of the Shelby Mustangs on display included the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, a one-off car with a Le Mans 427ci V8 that could top 170 mph, the very first Shelby GT350 ever built, and the very first GT350 R model that is in original condition. Other cars on display were a 1965 Shelby GT350 drag car, one of three in existence, a 1966 GT350 convertible, one of four built, and a matching pair of 1968 GT500KRs with sequential VIN numbers. Shelby also brought out their latest models including a 2010 GT500 Super Snake and the 2011 GT350. You can see all the cars in the gallery below.
