Vaughn Gittin Jr. started off the season with the points lead in the 2010 Formula Drift season thanks to an opening win at the streets of Long Beach, and he hoped to maintain his position a the top of the charts going into this past weekend’s event at Las Vegas. As has been his standard for this season, Gittin piloted his Monster Energy / Falken Tire Ford Mustang to the semi finals, eventually landing a third place finish after defeating fellow Mustang driver Tony Brakohiapa.

The third place finish keeps Gittin in the Formula Drift points lead with 439 after five events, ahead of second place Daijiro Yoshihara (417) and third place Tanner Foust (386). He will have two more events to secure the championship, the first at Infineon Raceway from September 10-11 and the season finale at Irwindale Speedway from October 8-9.
