Rare 1970 Shelby GT500 going up for auction at Barrett-Jackson
Shelby Mustang expert Stephen Becker will auction an original 1970 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang at the 3rd annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car Auction at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Shelby GT500 (Lot #670), from Becker’s personal inventory, will sell at No Reserve on Saturday, Sept. 25. Becker is also president and CEO of Planet Cobra, which specializes in current production Shelby Cobras.
“With its 428 CJ engine, ventilated front disc brakes and rare color, this GT500 incorporates several unique components in a combination not found in other muscle cars,” said Becker. “This big block is truly a special one-of-one Shelby that will cross the block at one of the world’s greatest collector car auctions. It will be a pleasure to celebrate the ingenuity embodied in Carroll Shelby’s vehicles with other enthusiasts who have a sincere appreciation for pure, unbridled performance.”
The muscle car is Grabber Green with white stripes and a black deluxe interior, making it the only 1970 GT500 produced in this color combination. The car still has most of its original components, such as the smog system, radiator, fan and starter, warranty card, work orders, etc. This one-owner car has no rust or accident history.
Highlights include:
- Grabber green with white stripes and black deluxe interior
- Original owner documentation including service records, warranty records, etc.
- Automatic transmission
- Documented in Shelby Registry
“This original GT500 fastback is an outstanding vehicle with original smog equipment, as well as matching numbers for the transmission, engine and rear, making this a great investment for those who value a genuine Shelby Mustang,” added Becker. “The Shelby is well documented and offers a serious collector the opportunity to own one of the last original GT500s.”
