Video: First Whipple-powered 2011 Mustang heads to the drag strip
Ever since Ford Racing/Whipple announced the new 624 horsepower supercharger system for the new 5.0-liter V8, we’ve been anxiously waiting to see real world results. Well, we don’t have to wait any longer. The folks over at Lethal Performance got their hands on one of the very first kits and immediately installed it, then promptly headed out to Palm Beach International Raceway to see what the car would do.
To figure out just how the supercharger kit improved the car’s performance, it was kept in stock configuration with a 6-speed manual and 3.73 gears with the exception of a set of 26″ drag radials. Lethal Performance also used Ford Racing’s standard tune to keep things consistent. So how did it do? After an initial run of 11.3 seconds at 121 mph, Lethal’s driver put down an 11.26 @ 122 mph, a time nearly identical to the first Roush-supercharged Mustang that laid down an 11.28 @ 125 mph last week. Lethal Performance believes that a ten second time slip is easily attainable if 28″ tires are used to negate the need for 5th gear.
You can watch two videos of Lethal’s supercharged 2011 Mustang, one from outside the car and one an inside vantage point.
