Shelby Mustang expert Stephen Becker will auction an original 1970 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang at the 3rd annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car Auction at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Shelby GT500 (Lot #670), from Becker’s personal inventory, will sell at No Reserve on Saturday, Sept. 25. Becker is also president and CEO of Planet Cobra, which specializes in current production Shelby Cobras.

Ever since Ford Racing/Whipple announced the new 624 horsepower supercharger system for the new 5.0-liter V8, we’ve been anxiously waiting to see real world results. Well, we don’t have to wait any longer. While the new 5.0-liter V8 in the 2011 Mustang GT makes it the “must-have” for those wanting the latest and greatest pony car, there are still quite a few 2010 models left on dealer lots awaiting new owners. To help entice potential customers, Ford has placed some heavy incentives on the 2010 Mustang GT in an effort to make room for more 2011 models.

The Mustangs at the Queen Mary car show in Long Beach, CA is one of the biggest all-Mustang car shows on the West Coast, and this year’s event was one of the best yet. More than 400 of Ford’s pony car were in attendance for the 14th annual show put on by the Beach Cities Mustang Club, with over 70 class awards and 200 trophies up for grabs.

SMS Supercars held its second annual car show and open house this weekend, and dozens of SMS and Saleen owners and enthusiasts made the trip to Corona, CA for the festivities. There were dozens of class awards given, and SMS employees were on hand to give tours of the new facility and show off the 2011 SMS 302 Mustang. Of course, Steve Saleen himself was on hand to sign plenty of autographs as well.

The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge wrapped up its third season this past weekend, and despite its popularity it will unfortunately be the series’ last season. Even so, we’d consider the Mustang Challenge a huge success. It gave up-and-coming drivers a great platform to compete on some of United States’ best race tracks and helped promote the Mustang brand.

Shelby has announced it will offer a Super Snake post title package for the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 with new styling cues and an optional 800 horsepower tuned engine. Only 1,000 total Super Snake packages for the 2011 model year car will be built at the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas or one of the official Shelby Mod Shops, beginning in September of this year.
