Spy Photos: Is this the new turbocharged EcoBoost Mustang?

EcoBoost Mustang

Earlier today automotive news sites and forums went into much speculation after InsideLine posted spy photos of what they believe to be a pre-production EcoBoost Mustang testing on public streets. Their reasoning included a 9000 rpm tachometer, a sign above the gauges reading “Premium Fuel Only” and a new bumper that could help feed air to an intercooler.

But are those reasons enough to think that this particular Mustang has a turbocharged motor underneath the hood? Another possibility is that Ford is doing final testing on the 2012 Mustang Boss 302. The Boss 302 has a 9000 rpm tachometer as well and definitely requires premium fuel. The front fascia on the mystery Mustang also looks to be lifted directly off the Boss 302. The only thing that really hints to forced induction is the dual gauge setup on the A-pillar, although the Laguna Seca package on the Boss 302 utilizes gauges as well.

So what do you think? Does InsideLine know something we don’t, or is this just wild speculation? Head over to InsideLine to see more spy photos of the supposed “EcoBoost Mustang” or tell us what you think in the comments below.
