BS Industries 1969 Ford Mustang "The Real Thing"

Most often an engine is built for a car, but in the case of this 1969 Ford Mustang nicknamed “The Real Thing” built by BS Industries, it’s the other way around. Under the hood of this classic pony car is a rare Ford V8 with a racing history. The Mustang features a Ford 494 aluminum V8 that was developed from the NASCAR aluminum Boss 429 for the Can Am sports car series specially for Mario Andretti. There were just twelve of these engines built by Ford and modified to 494ci by Holman and Moody, and Mario actually drove a McLaren M6B Can Am car with this 494 engine at Riverside in 1969.
