Original owner of 1965 Mustang breaks the million mile mark
We always like to hear stories about classic Mustang owners who drive their cars rather than storing them safely away in their garages, and Bob Lucas is the perfect example. The 79 year old man from Santa Ana, CA has owned his 1965 Mustang GT since he bought it brand new in 1964 and has racked up, unbelievably, over one million miles. The car is his daily driver and he estimates that he puts between 20,000 and 25,000 miles on the car every year. Lucas doesn’t necessarily have a secret for keeping the car running, except to replace parts when needed and change the oil about every 5,000 miles. The Mustang has currently been through three engines, and the only modification is an Edelbrock intake and 650 carburetor. “My car has not been babied or given special treatment,” he says. “It’s just good transportation.”
So does he have any plans on getting ride of the car? Not a chance. “I couldn’t find anything to take its place,” he says. “Many people sell their cars and get whatever is newer. This car still holds all the thrill and enjoyment of any car I have ever had. Thanks Ford, great job.”
