Do you own a 2011 Mustang and wonder how many other people bought your exact same car? Well, wonder no more, as Ford has put together a full report that provides the take rate percentage for literally every option and color. The chart lists the GT, Shelby GT500 and V6 separated by coupe and convertible and provides a percentage take rate for each model as well as the overall take rate. Note that some overall take rates for certain options will be relatively low since they were only offered on a specific model.
We’ve gone through the chart and picked out some of the most interesting numbers:
- In total there were 68,650 Mustangs produced in 2011 (26,422 GT, 5,026 Shelby GT500, 37,202 V6)
- Nearly 1/5 (19.05%) of Mustang GT Coupe buyers purchased the Brembo brake package
- About half of GT500 owners purchased the matching car cover
- 20.65% of buyers opted for the HID headlights
- The California Special Package made up 21.75% of Mustang GT Convertibles and 11.70% of Mustang GT Coupes
- Only 4.19% of Mustang buyers chose the glass roof option
- The most popular Mustang color for 2011 was overwhelmingly Black with over 1/4 (25.36%) of all Mustangs sold. Kona Metallic Blue came in second (13.2%) followed by Race Red (12.23%)
- The least popular Mustang color for 2011 was Yellow Blaze Metallic Tri-Coat at just .86%
- Nearly 3/4 of all GT500 owners purchased the SVT Performance Package, with a slightly higher take rate for the coupe
- Just 1.95% of Mustang V6 buyers elected for the V6 Performance Package
- 74.36% of Mustangs were equipped with SYNC
- Excluding the Shelby GT500, 31.17% of Mustangs had manual transmissions
- Dark Charcoal was the most popular interior color choice at 60.14%

I’ve been a Mustang owner for over 24 yrs and have always loved owning them but it seems to me that the Ford engineers have sat on their butts when there was no Camaro for 7 yrs and now Ford is behind in sales and performance. The Mustang used to outsell the GM twins by 2 to 1 and now the Camaro outsells the Mustang by 30% and most people say the Camaro is better looking but I will stick with the Mustang forever.
I have a 2012 GT now and I think it is a great car.I have driven the Camaro and its small trunk and low roof aren’t for me.So I can’t wait to see what Ford does for the 2014 model.I just hope thats its better than the Chevy and the Mustang is back on top again.
any chance of getting a newer version of this?
I only see percentages, no real definitive numbers, is there a better list you can share that tells exactly what Ford put out in 2011?
