Jack Roush Jr. and Billy Johnson combined to score their third victory of the season in the No. 61 Roush Performance Ford Mustang Boss 302R, winning the B+ Foundation Heroes 200 at New Jersey Motorsports Park in a race with temperatures reaching 99 degrees. It was their second consecutive dominant victory at the 2.25-mile, 12-turn Thunderbolt Raceway. Roush started third and took the lead on Lap 15. He led 21 circuits before handing the car over to Johnson, who led the final 14 circuits. A year ago, they combined to lead all but four of the 87 laps.

“Our plan is to go to Mid-Ohio (for the season finale) and win that one as well,” said Johnson after the race. “We’ll see where the cards fall and if we’re able to get a little bit of luck on our side, we might be able to wrap it up.”

Roush Jr. credited the win to his team for preparing the car before the race. “Crew chief Jeff Campey set the car up back at the shop before we came here, and we didn’t have to change it very much,” he said. “The car drove great and handled awesome the whole time I was in. The heat wasn’t as bad as I was fearing.”

Roush Jr. and Johnson are now in second place in the standings, 16 points behind the frontrunners. The only race remaining on the 2011 schedule is the EMCO Gears Classic on Sept. 17 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
