Last month Ford unveiled the 650 horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and its probable that very few Mustang fans came away unimpressed. Those that prefer their driving with the top down, however, were possibly left wanting as a convertible version was noticeably absent. Drop-top fans need not fret, though, as TopSpeed.com is now reporting that a convertible version of the 2013 Shelby GT500 will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

Steeda Autosports has announced the availability of their new vented cowl hood for all 2010-2012 Mustang models excluding the Shelby GT500. Part #307-Q2012, the hood features a subtle 1-inch cowl for an aggressive yet understated look as well as functional vents for improved cooling. Unlike many other steel or fiberglass units, the lightweight construction of the Steeda vented cowl hood means that it actually weighs slightly less than the stock aluminum hood. In addition to the styling and graphics changes to the Mustang Boss 302, a new slate of colors is also being offered for 2013. School Bus Yellow, Grabber Blue and Gotta-Have-it-Green have been added to the pallet, while Competition Orange, Kona Blue and Yellow Blaze have been dropped. Both Performance White and Race Red will remain options.

For the past several years Ford has partnered up with Barrett-Jackson to auction off vehicles for charity. Last year a one-off Grabber Blue Boss 302 Laguna Seca was sold for $450,000, and in previous years Mustangs like the Daytona 500 Pace Car have sold to the highest bidder to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This past year Shelby unveiled several of their new Mustangs at the major auto shows, including the 2012 GT350 at the Chicago Auto Show in February and the 2012 GT500 Super Snake and the 2012 GTS at the New York Auto Show in April. The Driveshaft Shop has recently announced the availability of their new carbon fiber driveshaft for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. Part #PDSH9-C-CV1, the lightweight 3.25-inch one-piece driveshaft has been specially developed to be the lightest and strongest on the market and to deal with the harmonic vibrations normally associated with aftermarket driveshafts for the Mustang. Back in August the NHTSA opened an investigation into the 2011+ Mustang’s Getrag MT-82 6-speed manual transmission after owners reported cold shifting problems, binding gears, difficulty engaging in shifts and excessive noise and vibration. Last month Ford responded to those concerns, citing the various fixes that were done to rectify the problems, and now the NHTSA has officially closed the investigation claiming that “there is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.” Here is the …

After unveiling a licensed 1965-1966 Mustang Convertible body shell at SEMA earlier this year, Ford has officially announced the availability of a 1967 Mustang Convertible body shell. This newest officially licensed Ford Restoration part is now available to order starting at $15,995. The 1967 convertible is the fourth reproduction classic Mustang body available to restorers, joining the ’65 convertible, the ’67 fastback and the ’69 fastback.

With the announcement of the new Coyote Stock racing class for the 2012 NMRA season, Ford Racing Performance Parts has announced the availability of a new sealed version of the Coyote 5.0L V8 crate engine, part #M-6007-M50S. Identical to the engine found in the 2011-2012 Mustang GT and sealed by Ford Racing to ensure that none of the internals are changed, the 5.0L motor features a lightweight aluminum block, cross-bolted main bearing caps and thick main bearing bulkheads for bottom-end strength. The performance potential of the 2011+ Mustang 5.0 is well documented, with even slightly modified cars running in the 9′s and some even dipping down into the 8′s. The most recent example is a 2011 Mustang built by DPM Racing of Naples, Florida.
