2012 SEMA Ford Mustang Coverage

It’s that time of the year again and the 2012 SEMA Show is finally here. Over the next several days we’ll be bringing you comprehensive coverage of all things Ford Mustang from the show floor here at the Las Vegas Convention Center including all of the latest news, the custom project cars and the newest products for both classic and modern Ford Mustangs. We will be updating this page regularly with new content throughout the week, so be sure to check back often to see the latest in-depth articles and high-resolution photo galleries.

Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet Concept

Earlier today Ford Racing revealed the much-anticipated Mustang Cobra Jet Concept at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. While we’ve already given you the juicy details and the official images from Ford, we can now show you live photos from the car’s unveiling on the show floor. We’re happy to say the car looks simply stunning in person, in part due to the new EcoBoost livery that will be appearing on all of Ford’s motorsports programs throughout the the world…

Mustang Cobra Jet Concept Twin-Turbo V8

The twin-turbo Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet Concept was undoubtedly the star of the 2012 SEMA Show, not just for those in the Mustang community but for the automotive industry as a whole. To be honest, though, it’s what was under the hood of the car that got people truly excited. The twin-turbocharged engine is Ford’s first application of EcoBoost technology for an eight cylinder engine and potentially represents what we could be seeing in future Mustang models…

Pure Vision Design T-5R Martini Racing 1966 Mustang Fastback

This 1966 Mustang Fastback built by Pure Vision Design – the same company responsible for the 1969 Anvil Mustang – looks fantastic with its Martini Racing livery. In fact, it would be one of our favorite Mustangs at this year’s SEMA show with just the paint scheme, but the true beauty of the car lies beneath the hood – a genuine 1960s Ford Indy Car V8. Peter Harksell of Pure Vision Design tells us that the inspiration for this special Mustang comes from an imaginary…

JF Kustoms 1967 Shelby GT500 “Kardiac”

When we saw this 1967 Shelby GT500 on the SEMA show floor we thought it looked familiar. We soon realized that it’s because the beautifully customized fastback nicknamed “Kardiac” was named as one a Ridler Award finalist and one of the “Great 8″ at the 2012 Detroit Autorama back in February. While we didn’t get to see the Shelby in person then, we were able to get our first up close and personal look at the car thanks to owner Gordon Phillips who…

Johnny Sparks “Reversion” Mustang

One of the highlights of last year’s SEMA show was the spectacularly retro “Reversion” Mustang built by Johnny Sparks. The 23-year-old took a standard 2011 Mustang GT and fitted it with hand-fabricated body panels from 1968 and 1969 Mustangs, then finished it off with a coat of matte red paint. Sparks is back at SEMA again this year with Reversion, although he’s made a few updates to the car since we saw it last. A coat of custom blue paint with gunmetal gray accents…

Creations ‘n Chrome “Top Notch Mustang”

Of all the Ford Mustangs we were looking forward to seeing at SEMA, this chrome blue Fox Body Mustang built by Creations n’ Chrome of Valencia, CA topped our list. While the Spectra Chrome blue paint job certainly catches the eye, it’s what’s underneath that really impresses. Creations n’ Chrome has taken a race-prepped 1990 Mustang Coupe chassis and squeezed in a Ford Racing Aluminator 5.0L V8 fitted with a Vortech JT-Trim supercharger system that…

Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang

Earlier this week we told you about Holman & Moody announcing a new 50th Anniversary TdF package for the 2014 Mustang. The basis for the car is the 1-2-3 finish by a trio of Mustangs prepared by Holman & Moody at the 4,000 mile long Tour de France Automobile Rally in September of 1964. The modern version, which made its debut at SEMA on Wednesday, pays homage to the original race cars with its red paint and gold accents as well as various Ford…

Ring Brothers 2013 Ford Mustang Switchback

The Ring Brothers have become legendary for their custom car builds, creating some of the most incredible Pro-Touring vehicles on the planet including several Ford Mustangs. That’s why we were excited to learn that the Wisconsin-based company were going to debut a 2013 Mustang at this year’s SEMA show. While our expectations were certainly high, the Ring Brothers didn’t disappoint with their “Switchback” Mustang. In true Ring Brothers style the…

2013 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 3 by Mothers

When Vaughn Gittin Jr. launched the 2013 Mustang RTR this past summer he made two versions of the car available. The Spec 1 version featured mostly cosmetic upgrades while the Spec 2 received additional suspension upgrades and an optional supercharger system. What then would a Spec 3 Mustang RTR be like? You’re looking at it here, a 2013 Mustang RTR built by Mothers and Autosport Dynamics. The Spec 3 takes the Mustang RTR to…

2013 Ford Mustang Build Powered by Women

Earlier this year Ford and SEMA announced that they would be teaming up on Mustang project completely designed and built by women. Three concepts were initially created, with the winning design, seen here, being chosen via an online poll. Nicknamed “High Gear”, this Mustang was designed by Jennifer Seely of Ford and is inspired by jewelry, couture clothing and architecture. Built at Source Interlink’s headquarters in El Segundo, CA under the…

Bojix Design 2013 Ford Mustang

It was hard to miss this 2013 Ford Mustang featured in the ProCharger booth at SEMA. Built by Bojix Design of Duarte, CA, the car features a Gulf Racing-inspired paint scheme with burnt orange and carbon fiber vinyl wraps over the factory Grabber Blue paint as well as orange Rennen Monolite M10 20-inch wheels. The exterior also features a Boss 302 front splitter and grille, Bojix Design carbon fiber side splitters, a 3dCarbon rear spoiler, and our…

3dCarbon Boy Racer Mustang

3dCarbon has had a consistent presence at SEMA the past few years, first making a splash in 2004 with their Boy Racer widebody kit for the S197 Mustang. Since then the company has produced new variations of the Boy Racer, and their latest for the 2013 Mustang is featured here at the SEMA show. The show car, finished in a bright ketchup and mustard color combination, features a six piece body kit with optional side vents, rear window U-trim and quarter window…

2013 Ford Mustang by Stitchcraft

Stitchcraft is known for their custom car interiors, so its no surprise that their project Mustang at the SEMA show features a gorgeous cockpit. The 2013 Mustang Convertible has been fitted with custom Katzkin leather and Alcantara Sparco seats complete with cooling and massage systems, Scroth 4-point harnesses, matching rear seats, an Alpine audio and navigation system, painted trim pieces and custom billet badges. The outside of the car looks just as…

2013 Ford Mustang by DSO Eyewear

We would never have thought of a sunglesses company capable of building a custom Mustang, but DSO Eyewear did a great job with this 2013 Mustang GT. The car stands out with its custom BASF Pearl White paint and a 3dCarbon body kit, but its just as impressive underneath the skin with a Whipple 2.9-liter supercharger system, Gibson ceramic-coated exhaust, Eibach coilover suspension system and Brembo brakes front and rear. Inside the DSO…

Joey Redmond’s 2013 Ford Mustang RTR

This 2013 Ford Mustang on display in the Energy Suspension booth at SEMA immediately caught our eye. After all, it’s not every day you see a brown Mustang. Owner Joey Redmond tells us the color is actually a Gold Bronze from BASF, also available as an option on the 2013 Ford F-250. Combined with the RTR body kit, graphics and 19-inch wheels, it’s one of the coolest looking 2013 Mustangs we’ve ever seen. In addition to the exterior changes Redmond has done…

Steeda Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca

The Boss 302 Laguna Seca is already a very capable track car, but if there’s any company that can take the car to the next level it’s Steeda. The Florida-based company has won multiple road racing championships over the past two decades and have put that experience into the 2013 Laguna Seca on display at the Nitto Tire booth that features a plethora of performance upgrades. The engine has been given a light makeover with a Steeda cold air intake…

Roush 700 Horsepower Stage 3 Mustang

Three powerhouse performance brands have come together at this year’s SEMA Show to showcase their finest products in a 2013 Mustang GT. Roush Performance, Ford Racing and Sherwin-Williams Automotive Paints have collaborated to produce an incredible 700 horsepower Roush Stage 3 Mustang. “This awesome Mustang features the hefty Ford Racing Aluminator Engine in concert with the Roush Phase 3 Supercharger Kit. This durable powertrain…

Kenny Brown GT4-RS Autobahn Edition Mustang

The name Kenny Brown is legendary in the Mustang community, although the company has been relatively quiet in the past couple years. That’s starting to change, though, with the recent resurgence of the brand. Last year at SEMA Kenny Brown debuted their GT-4T Mustang Convertible, and they’ve followed that up this year with the GT4-RS Autobahn Edition Mustang you see here. Designed for the track day enthusiast, the GT4-RS features Kenny Brown’s GT4…

Classic Design Concepts 2013 Ford Mustang

Classic Design Concepts was out in full force at SEMA this year, proudly displaying their Deep Impact Blue 2013 Ford Mustang featuring the company’s latest body components. You might notice that several of the pieces are similar to Vaughn Gittin Jr’s RTR package, and that’s because they are both made by CDC. Of notable difference is the hood graphics package that flows nicely with the shaker hood system as well as the grille with the GT badging…

Kris Horton’s 2012 Ford Mustang Ringleader

Kris Horton, owner of Cars by Kris, is no stranger designing custom cars, having helped create several SEMA projects in the past. His latest is this 2012 Ford Mustang GT featured in the Whiteline booth at SEMA, and we think it’s one of his best designs yet. Nicknamed “Ringleader”, the Mustang features TruFiber carbon fiber body, components, custom paintwork and airbrushing, a ProCharger intercooled supercharger system, Baer 6-piston brake system and…

TruFiber 2013 Ford Mustang Convertible

This 2013 Ford Mustang Convertible was on display at the TruFiber booth at SEMA in Las Vegas, and not since Vaughn Gittin Jr’s RTR-C Mustang have we seen so much carbon fiber. The car was fitted with just about every carbon fiber part offered by the company, from the front splitter to the hood to the rear diffuser. Even the convertible top cover was made from carbon fiber. TruFiber’s Mustang had more than just cosmetic upgrades, though. Under the hood is a Paxton…

Webasto 2013 Ford Mustang

Last year at SEMA Webasto debuted a custom Mustang to honor fallen soldiers, and this year the company returned with yet another pony car. The highlight of the Mustang is no doubt the company’s trick Hollandia 322L power sunroof, but there’s plenty of other cool details on the car as well. A Roush front end and grille, Revelare Design cowl hood, 3dCarbon rear spoiler and iForged Legacy V2 wheels complete the exterior, while Katzkin leather seats brighten…

281 Motorsports Saleen Speedster

With most of the Ford Mustangs here at the SEMA show in Las Vegas are either brand new or classic models, this Saleen Speedster from 281 Motorsports really stood out from the crowd. It also happens to be one of the cleanest New Edge Mustangs we’ve ever seen, and we love the Saleen SA20-inspired paint scheme with BASF Pearl White paint. The real beauty of the car is underneath the car, though, with a full Maximum Motorsports suspension setup…

2012 Shelby 1000

We’ve already shown you plenty of photos and videos of the 2012 Shelby 1000, which made its debut at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, but with the supercharged V8 producing up to 1,100 horsepower it’s definitely a car that deserves a second look. Or third. Or fourth. The car pictured here, sporting Kona Blue paint and bare aluminum wheels, is the same exact one that debuted in New York and was on display in the Wilwood booth at SEMA. Under the…

Justin Pawlak’s Formula Drift Mustang

On display at the Falken Tire booth at SEMA is Justin Pawlak’s Formula Drift Mustang. Pawlak is coming off a fourth place finish this season, winning two events, and capturing the Tires.com Triple Crown. We normally see his Mustang sliding sideways with smokey bits of destroyed tire rubberpouring out the back, so it was a stark contrast to see the car pristinely detailed on the show floor. While an oblivious onlooker might assume Pawlak’s Mustang to be just a…

Classic Recreations RHD Shelby GT500CR Convertible

Oklahoma-based Classic Recreations has built some pretty incredible cars over the past few years, starting with the 1967 Shelby GT500CR followed up by various iterations since like the GT500CR 900S and the GT500CR Convertible. At first glance this GT500CR, which we spotted in the Dynacorn booth at this SEMA show, seems to simply be an example of the latter, but a closer look reveals something very unique about the car – it’s right-hand-drive. Jason…

Carroll Shelby Tribute

Much of SEMA is about looking forward – to new ideas and new products. However, at least one part was dedicated to looking back. This display of Mustangs (and one Cobra) was put together as a tribute to the late Carroll Shelby who passed away in May of this year. While we would have loved to have seen more classic Shelby Mustangs – represented only by a single 1966 GT350, the collection of cars is still impressive. The recently introduced 2013 Shelby…
