It’s well known that Americans adore the Ford Mustang. Ever since the car was introduced in 1964 the two have had a love affair, and it has continued nonstop through today. What might come as a surprise, though, is that Europeans are just as infatuated with the original pony car. According to a recent study done by the web site AutoScout24.com, a marketplace for new and used cars, the Ford Mustang is by far the most desirable classic car in Europe. More than 75,000 people were polled in Belgium, Austria, Germany, Holland and Spain, with 37% naming the Mustang as the classic car they would most like to own.

“Ford Mustang is more than a car, it’s the freedom of the open road and the spirit of performance driving,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. “Mustang has been a fundamental part of global automotive culture for almost half a century and is one of the world’s most recognisable vehicles.”

The current Mustang hasn’t been as much of a hit in Europe, mostly due to high costs from importing so few models. However, Ford has announced that the next generation Mustang will be headed to Europe in mass, so we will soon find out if their love affair with the classic version will translate into sales of the newest model.
