If you’ve ever thought about putting a crate engine in your Mustang project car, then you’ve likely browsed through Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog and seen their Aluminator line of engines. The turn-key 5.0L engines are ideal for the 2011-2014 Mustang since they bolt right in, although they can fit into various other Ford projects as well. Currently three versions are offered, including a naturally aspirated (NA) model with 11:1 compression, a supercharged (SC) model with 9.5:1 compression, and the XS model inspired by the race engine in the Mustang …

Kenne Bell has a long history of producing supercharger systems for the Mustang 5.0, starting with their twin-screw kit for the 1986 – 1993 Mustang that offered up anywhere from 360 to 785 rear wheel horsepower. Since then the company has provided a forced induction option for just about every Mustang made from the Mach 1 to the SVT Cobra to the Shelby GT500, all of which were capable of produced prodigious amounts of safe, reliable horsepower.
With the introduction of the new Coyote 5.0L V8 in 2011, Kenne Bell has …

It might be easy to assume that there aren’t too many differences between the old 5.4-liter V8 in the 2012 Shelby GT500 and the new 5.8-liter V8 in the 2013 Shelby GT500. After all, the two engines look relatively the same and it’s fairly easy to add more displacement, right? Of course, that’s not the case as both Ford and SVT worked hard over the past year to make the 650 horsepower supercharged 5.8-liter V8 in the 2013 GT500 the most powerful production V8 currently produced in the world. “Anyone …

One of the many great features of the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 is its quad exhaust system. To get the most of the system, though, a restrictor plate needs to be removed to allow exhaust gases to flow to the two side pipes that exit just ahead of the rear tires. Recently Car and Driver got their hands on 2012 Boss 302 for testing, and figured out just how easy it is to remove the restrictors. After getting the car up on the lift, the magazine found that it took …

With 444 horsepower on tap the 2012 Mustang Boss 302′s V8 is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever produced. To achieve this was no easy feat, and Ford has done significant upgrades compared to the 5.0L engine in the standard Mustang GT. A unique runners-in-the-box air intake allows for additional air flow, and a fortified valve train allows the engine to run to a 7500 rpm redline. Many of the internal components have been strengthened as well, such as the pistons, connecting rods and the crankshaft.
To give …

As we reported earlier, the production of the 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet is well underway at the Auto Alliance Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. The engines, however, are built separately at Ford’s Romeo engine assembly plant that has produced more than 10 million V8s for the Mustang, F-150, Explorer and other Ford vehicles. The Mustang Cobra Jet’s engine doesn’t go through the regular assembly line, though, and a dedicated team hand-builds each of the motors on what is called the Romeo Niche line. This special assembly program was started in …

Ford Racing’s FR500CJ Cobra Jet has proven itself a worthy competitor on track, winning races since its debut in 2008. An updated Cobra Jet arrived in 2010 with the new body style, and yet another revision is set to come in 2012. That’s great for fans of the Mustang, but there’s a problem for anyone interested in getting their hands on one. Ford Racing builds just 50 Cobra Jets per year at a price tag much higher than most Mustang enthusiasts can afford. The 2012 Cobra jet starts at $91,900 …

The 2005-2010 Mustang features an electronically controlled dual throttle body that does an excellent job of metering air into the intake manifold. Of course, more air is better, and several aftermarket companies have developed throttle bodies with larger openings that can feed more air into the Mustang GT’s 4.6-liter V8.
BBK Performance in Temecula, CA specialize in throttle body applications and has developed a 62mm unit for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. The throttle body is CNC machined from 356 aluminum castings and is designed to increase air flow over 30 percent …

When Ford first revealed the initial details about the 2012 Boss 302, they assured the Mustang community that the car would be the real deal. “We were either going to do it right or not do it at all – no one on the team was going to let Boss become a sticker and wheel package,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. “The Boss 302 isn’t something a Mustang GT owner can buy all the parts for out of a catalog or that a tuner …

Based in Carlsbad, CA, Agent 47 is a high-tech manufacturing company that designs and builds racing parts for Mustangs, and they do quite a bit of racing themselves in NASA’s American Iron series. For those reasons one might expect that their most popular product would be something to do with motorsports, such as suspension components, brakes, or roll cages. In fact, Agent 47′s most popular product is their Retro Race Mirrors. The retro styling and ease of installation has made the mirrors a popular modification for S197 owners, and so …
