Joe Foster earned his second GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Grand Sport pole position of the season Friday at Lime Rock Park and will lead a 25-car GS field to the green flag in Saturday’s Memorial Day Weekend Classic. The Ford Mustang Boss 302R was consistently one of the fastest car on track at this past weekend’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Race at Virginia International Raceway. The No. 61 Roush Performance Boss 302R took the checkered flag on race day, narrowly beating out the BMW M3 driven by Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana.

The No. 61 Roush Performance Ford Mustang Boss 302R gave Ford its second victory of the year in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge by taking the checkered flag at the Bosch Engineering 200 at Virginia International Raceway this past weekend. The Roush team qualified fifth, and Johnson took the lead from defending Grand Sport champ Charles Espenlaub with 15 minutes remaining in the two-hour, 30-minute event. An iconic Mustang is back in victory lane delivering a race win to the “Blue Oval.” Multimatic Motorsports’ championship driver duo of Scott Maxwell and Joe Foster claimed the first competition victory for the Boss 302R in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in GRAND-AM at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.

Joe Foster proved once again Friday he is the driver to beat in qualifying at Barber Motorsports Park. For the third time in four years, Foster will lead the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge to the green flag at Barber in his Ford Mustang Boss 302R, following his near record performance in a 15-minute Grand Sport class qualifying session. Saturday’s two-and-a-half hour Barber 200 will start at 11:30 a.m. CT.

While it didn’t manage to capture the win, the Mustang Boss 302R run by Multimatic Motorsports had a great showing at the Grand-Am 200 last month at Daytona Speedway. Drivers Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell placed second, and could have possibly been atop the podium if not for a slow pit stop.

Fighting tooth and nail for most of the race and much as was the case in 2010, a Ford Mustang would doggedly fight with a BMW for first place for much of Friday’s Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge’s Grand-Am 200.
Unfortunately, the BMW prevailed much as it had in 2010, though this time the No. 15 Multimatic Motorsports’ Ford Mustang Boss 302R of Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell disallowed a BMW podium sweep.

The 2009 season saw Rehagen Racing and JBS Motorsports finish 1-2 in the race for the GS championship. With both teams running a limited schedule for 2011, the die-hard Mustang competitors will team up to assault the new asphalt on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. Bret Seafuse (JBS) will pair with Dean Martin (RR) in the new Ford Mustang Boss 302R1 from Ford Racing. The start of the Grand-Am racing season is just a few weeks away, and many of the teams headed out to Daytona International Speedway last weekend for a three day test session to prepare for the upcoming season.
